ANY TEMPORARY LOCAL RULES

IF SITUATION IMPROVEMENT IS ANNOUNCED, THE FOLLOWING APPLIES

When a player's ball lies on any part of the course that has been cut to fairway height or lower, the player may take relief once (per occasion) without penalty by placing the original ball or another ball and playing it from that relief area:

  • Reference point: The location of the original ball.
  • The size of the relief area measured from the reference point is one club-length from the reference point, but with these limitations:
  • Restrictions on the location of the relief area:
  • Must not be closer to the hole than the reference point and
  • Must be on the field.
  • When a player proceeds under this Local Rule, the player must select a spot to place the ball and use the procedure for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

Penalty for playing ball from wrong place in breach of Local Rule: general penalty under Rule 14.7a.

IF TEMPORARY BALL CLEANING IS ANNOUNCED, THE FOLLOWING APPLIES

When a player’s ball lies on the playing surface that has been cut to fairway height or lower, the ball may be lifted, cleaned and replaced without penalty. The player must mark the spot of the ball before lifting the ball (see Rule 14.1) and the ball must be replaced on its original spot (see Rule 14.2).
